Why you need an email list for your online business

I’m going to start off by saying, I don’t really care what type of online entrepreneur you are.  It doesn’t matter whether your business model is product based or service based.

Let me repeat….

You need an Email List REGARDLESS if you want to survive long term.

Social Media, Pinterest, Paid Ads etc… are all fine and dandy but you really have VERY LITTLE CONTROL over the outcome of these.

Your email list, on the other hand, is YOURS.  You own it.  No one can change the algorithm or decide to charge you higher prices for Ads.

You have a DIRECT connection with your list and you don’t have to hope they see your message.  You are sending it right to them…

That, my friends, is priceless and why YOU NEED an email list.

How an email list can impact your biz

1. Stay top of mind with potential Service Clients.

This is my number one reason as to why you need an email list.

There is a pretty small chance that a potential Service Based Client is going to visit your site one time and then remember you specifically 3 months down the road when they need that type of service.

You might get lucky and show up in their Google or Pinterest Search.

I don’t like to base my business longevity on luck.

If you gave them a reason the first time they visited your site to join your email list, and got in touch with them weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly, how much do you think you would up your chances of being top of mind when they do need a service you offer?

Chances are pretty good.

2. Take the guess work out of Service and Product Offerings.

What do you think the best way to figure out what type of Services or Products your clients/readers need and want?

You. Can. Ask. Them.

It’s that simple.

Having a list of loyal believers allows you really hone in on what they need. Chances are they will be thrilled that you are taking the time to ask them directly. Then how can they resist purchasing services or products that were literally built to solve their problems.

Now that’s some business leverage!

3. Builds Trust and Recognition

When you are constantly offering value and information via your email newsletter to your list, you are building their confidence in you. Now, when people have trust and confidence in your Services or products, what do you think this does.

Well for starters, it allows you to charge a premium for your Services or products. It also takes away any extra doubt your clients and readers may have before they purchase. They have gotten to know you and feel like they can count on what you are offering.

You are nipping potential objections in the bud before they even happen!

Think of what that can do for your conversion rates!

4. Identifies time wasters

Let’s say you have 3-5 different Opt-in Freebies on your site. You can analyze your list to see what is most attractive to them. Maybe one of your Opt-in Freebies accounts for 70% of your email sign ups.

What type of Opt-in Freebie is it?

Maybe it’s a simple checklist, or an eCourse or an eBook. This tells you what type of content your list prefers.

If your readers and clients prefer actionable checklists or worksheets, you can avoid spending hours on developing your next eBook that isn’t really going to help you out very much.

In the same amount of time, you can probably create 3-4 other checklists or worksheets that your readers or clients really want.

How many more email signups do you think that will get you?

5. Increase profits with Sales Funnels

Most people think of Sales Funnels as only ideal for product based businesses but that’s entirely NOT the case.

First, let’s have a quick chat about what a sales funnel is.

People are inherently skeptical and are very unlikely to give you their money (for services or products) the first time they hear of you or land on your website.

This is where a Sales Funnel comes in. It takes cold leads that find your website, social media, blog posts etc.. and sets them on a path to building trust in you and your offerings.

This is a very simple diagram of a sales funnel.

You provide your reader with the opportunity to receive free content for joining your email list.

You continue to provide them with FREE and Valuable content asking nothing in return. You can make this part of a specific welcome series or just part of your regular contact with your list.

You introduce your paid products or services. By this time, you have offered them quite a bit of Free content that they have been able to use and this should have helped to build some trust and confidence in what you are offering.

You convert that original lead to either a Sale of your Services or a Sale of your Product.

This seamless flow can’t happen without them first Opt-ing in to your email list.

And in case you are wondering which email provider I choose for my email list, Opt-in Freebies and Sales Funnels, it’s Mailerlite, and it’s FREE to get started!!!

I hope I have given you some good insight as to Why You Need an Email List and how it can really make an impact on your business!

And now that you know the important of having a list, I want you to be able to easily identify which types of Opt-in Freebies will work best for your readers and niche.

That’s why I’ve created an Opt-in Freebie workbook to help you get to the next step as QUICK AS POSSIBLE!

    1. Hi Elle, I think as long as you keep it in moderation, you won’t be spammy to your audience! Afterall, they did sign up for your newsletter because they want to be a part of your community and hear from you, so don’t shy away from that!

    1. Hi Jauwan, never underestimate the power of your list. The whole reason you blog and have a website in the first place is to provide value and to keep in touch with your readers/audience/clients! It’s always a good idea to make them a priority, after all, without readers, what is the point…
