Do you find that your own business isn’t growing online? It’s never been more important to have a successful online presence for your business. If there was one take away from 2020 as a business owner, I think that’s it.
It’s also one of the main reasons why some businesses flourished last year and some stayed stagnant, or worse, had to close their doors.
So what actually made the difference between success and failure when it came to online presence?
We think it can be broken down into three main reasons why your business isn’t growing online.
1. Brand Messaging
The first reason why your business isn’t growing online is because of your lack of effective brand messaging.
Yes, I get it, brand messaging sounds about as exciting as filing that shoebox of receipts you have sitting under your desk.
And when I first started Lady Boss Studio, I kind of felt the same.
But then I focused on it anyway, attracted the right audience (AKA you) – and the rest is history.
So let’s dig in. What is brand messaging?
Believe it or not, people make buying decisions based on emotions and because of words, not because of a color palette or pretty logo.
That’s not to say you should ignore the rest. They are all great supporting characters, but they’re not the shining stars.
You need to communicate with your audience in a way that lets them know that you offer a solution to their problem.
Instead of letting them know all of the features of your product or service, let them know the solution it provides for them and how it will make their life better.
That’s when you’ll get their attention! When a customer knows what’s in it for them and how it can make a difference for them, that’s when they want to buy from you.
So do an audit of your website, social media posts and all other marketing to see where you could be switching up your brand messaging to be much more effective.
2. Conversion-Friendly Website
The second reason your business isn’t growing online is that you don’t have a very conversion-friendly website.
Have you heard of the name Donald Miller or StoryBrand?
It’s one of the leading marketing and brand messaging companies out there today. And I believe so strongly in their message and program that I chose to become a Storybrand Certified Guide.
Too many business owners are confused and wasting money on marketing (and their website) with too little return or impact.
To help illustrate that fact, we would love for you to watch this 5-Minute Marketing Makeover series that will help you tremendously in creating a better website.
Without completely repeating everything Don says in the video, here are a few things you want to watch out for.
- Make sure you have direct Calls to Action and you’re clear about what you want your website visitors to do. (AKA – buy now).
- Make sure you’re very clear what it is you do and how it will benefit your audience.
- Less is more. Don’t make your audience read through paragraphs of heavy text.
- Give them an easy plan to do business with you.
Take some time to edit your website and make sure you’re making it as easy on people as possible to do business with you!
3. No Sales Funnel
The third reason your business isn’t growing online is that you don’t have a proper sales funnel set up.
It took me a long time to wrap my head around this concept.
It’s also the reason we put together our Lead Magnet Blueprint. We want you to have the head start we didn’t have.
Having the right templates and plan in place to grow your email list with qualified leads seems like a no-brainer now. But I didn’t have access to a program like that when I started.
So what the heck is a sales funnel?
First, let me just say that there are many different types.
But in its simplest form, it’s leading your customer/subscriber through a predetermined sequence that helps them buy more from you and also get more value from you.
In essence, you bring a larger amount of subscribers in through a strategic Lead Magnet, then you move a percentage of those onto your next offer, and then a percentage of those onto another offer and so forth.
Here is an example of a basic Sales Funnel for a Lead Magnet:
You’re bringing in a steady stream of qualified leads through the top of your funnels so that there are always buyers that are ready for your other offers.
Keep in mind, this only works well if you strategically plan out your Lead Magnet so that it perfectly relates to your other offers. It won’t work as well if there is a disconnect between them.
So take some time to plan out your sales funnel and your customer journey. This will help to make sure you’re not losing out on major business because of a lack in strategy.
