The Top 5 Most Common Branding Mistakes to Avoid.

So you’ve got your business idea and you’re ready to hit the ground running!

Or maybe you already started to build your brand but you feel like it needs some tweaking? I hear ya… and we’re here to guide you through the process of creating an amazing and professional brand without make some of these common branding mistakes.

Now honestly, there are a couple key factors that really make or break a brand.

When you’re launching a new business it’s super important to look professional. Because, if you don’t look professional then really, who is going to take you seriously?

Having a professional brand allows you to be sure you’re attracting the right client. You want the client to respect you and view you as a capable and professional business owner who is an expert in whatever you may be offering.

Even if you may not feel like you are at that point, you need to look like you are!

"It only takes consumers 10 seconds to form a first impression of a brand"

Why is Your Brand Important?

You really only have a couple seconds to grab the attention of your potential clients or buyers. The online world is so over-saturated that if you’re not showing up and rockin it from the get-go, no one is going to notice you.

It really doesn’t matter whether you’re a service provider, have an online shop or you’re a blogger, your business will never thrive with an inconsistent brand.

People will have no problem just scrolling right past you if they don’t see something that catches their eye. Come on… you know you do it too!

So what business branding mistakes are making you look unprofessional you may ask?

1. Too Many Different Fonts

Now this just doesn’t pertain to your logo. This is for all branding material and your website. I can’t tell you how often I see this.

I challenge you next time you’re checking out someone’s website to count how many different fonts they use.

If there are too many, it just looks chaotic. It’s super important to refine your fonts.

Pick 2 -3 three fonts that speak to your brand and use them consistently. It may seem like it’s only a font, but trust me it will make a huge difference in the overall professionalism of your brand.

2. Low Quality Graphics

Now this one is a real pet peeve of mine… There just really isn’t any reason for it!

When you’re picking and including any graphic on your branded material you need make sure that they’re high quality and crisp graphics.

Blurry and pixelated messes scream unprofessional!

If your image is poor quality, it makes it look like you don’t care enough to fix the issue. A really terrible message to be sending to future clients.

Another message that low-quality images can send is a sense of cheapness or DIY within your brand.

Now y’all know that I preach saving money and doing things for yourself when you are starting out. But that does not mean creating cheap images!

You can create a ton of really amazing graphics through Canva that look super professional at a low to no-cost.

So you have no excuses!

3. No Brand Consistency

Basically this means that no matte which platform someone sees your brand, it’s instantly recognizable.  The same colors, logo, fonts etc.. are always present.

This is one I see most often, I’ll check out someones website and then look over their Facebook Business page and it’s looks like two completely businesses.

That’s extremely confusing to a potential client and buyer and you know the old saying ” a confused buyer is a non-buyer”.

When going from one platform or marketing material to another, there should be no reason what so ever for a person to question if they are still looking at the same business.

It might be time to do a self-audit to make sure that you’re consistent across all boards!

4. Not Enough Breathing Room

Have you ever stumble onto a web page and instantly feel anxious? Yep. That’s the results of not enough breathing room!

Give it some space, girl!

Truly, if you look back at your design and feel like something just isn’t right, give the text or graphics some space.

A clogged-up website or social media post looks unprofessional and chaotic and you really don’t want your brand to reflect the idea of chaos or mess.

It is super important to create a clean and organized layout so your viewers are not overwhelmed.

There is a lot of power in blank space, so don’t be afraid of it!

5. Lacking Audience Definition

This is so so important!

Have you really spent the time to narrow down your audience to make sure that you’re branding is attracting the right people.

I get that you want your branding to represent you as an entrepreneur but… it’s actually more important that your branding be appealing to your target market.

What fits your personality might not actually be the best fit for the people you’re trying to attract and this can have a major impact on your business.
